Fitzgerald holds off Cardinal Mooney for seventh straight win; Port Huron bounces St. Clair win

Warren Fitzgerald is winning girls basketball games in a wide variety of ways this season. Monday’s road win came in the close encounter kind. The Spartans held on for a 48-44 non-conference victory over host Marine City Cardinal Mooney to not only win their seventh game of the season, but seventh consecutive game after a season-opening loss. “We won some games by a large margin so having a close game again will help us later in the season as we get into the MAC Gold,” said first-year Fitzgerald coach Connie Fricken. “We had some close wins earlier in the season (over Center Line and Hazel Park) but our last few wins have been by a lot.
