Energy groups re-petition Georgia Power’s massive grid expansion

The fight against Georgia Power's planned 9.9-gigawatt expansion has not let up. On Jan. 9, the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), on behalf of petitioners Georgia Interfaith Power and Light and Southface Institute, filed a petition for reconsideration of last December's approval by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC), granting permission to Georgia Power to expand its grid by about half of its current capacity. That's equal to two Plant Vogtles, the nation's largest nuclear power plant, or five Hoover Dams. Despite the hours of hearings last year that led to a unanimous vote against the majority of public comments, petitioners hope this attempt might yield different results....
