Death in Custody: Mandinari protest echoes calls against police brutality

Eyewitnesses to the incident claimed that the deceased, Omar Badjie, was allegedly beaten by police officers while in handcuffs. They further alleged that Mr Badjie was found in possession of a small quantity of cannabis, which led to his arrest. From the early hours of Friday, Mandinari’s streets filled with mourners turned demonstrators, young and old, men and women, marching in solidarity on Saturday. Their destination: Lamin village, several kilometres away. Their message: clear and resolute.
