On Thursday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with her Canadian counterpart and Group of Seven (G7) Chairman Justin Trudeau, reaffirming the importance of doing everything possible to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. According to Ukrinform, this was reported by ANSA with reference to a statement by Meloni's office. After “exchanging views on major issues of international politics and the latest developments in the Ukrainian dossier,” Meloni confirmed that “the priority for Italy is the same as for the rest of Europe, the Atlantic Alliance and Kyiv: to do everything possible to stop the conflict and achieve peace,” the Italian prime minister's office said. In a press release on the Italian government's website, Meloni also recalled that it was the support of the West, along with Ukrainian courage and steadfastness, that created the conditions that allow us to talk about a possible peace agreement today. Italy, together with the United States and its European and Western partners, is working for a lasting peace in Europe, which requires real and effective security guarantees for Ukraine. As Ukrinform previously reported, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that his country would continue to strongly support Ukraine in the war against the Russian invasion.
