Three Suspected Russian Spies Arrested in the UK

British authorities have arrested three individuals in Essex on suspicion of aiding Russian intelligence, The Independent reported. The suspects include two men, aged 41 and 46, and a 35-year-old woman, who were detained at separate addresses in Grays and taken to a London police station. The charges relate specifically to activities benefiting Russia. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter-Terrorism Command, said:"We are seeing a rise in so-called 'proxies' being recruited by foreign intelligence services. Anyone here in the UK who may contact or engage in criminal activity on behalf of a foreign state should think very carefully. Such activity will be investigated, and anyone found involved can expect prosecution, which may carry very serious consequences." All three suspects were released on bail, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed the nationalities of those involved. The arrests follow similar operations in the region, including the Latvian State Security Service detaining a man suspected of passing information on military sites to Russian intelligence.
