Germany Rules Out Rebuilding Nord Stream 2

Manuela Schwesig, the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, has firmly rejected the possibility of rebuilding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which was never put into operation. Her statement was reported by n-tv. Schwesig reminded that Germany has maintained a clear stance from the beginning: "Nord Stream 2 will not be certified if Russia crosses the red line." "Russia has significantly crossed the red line with its war of aggression against Ukraine. This threatens peace across Europe. That is why, in our time, such signals should not be sent under any circumstances," she emphasized, responding to speculation that American businessmen might collaborate with Russia to rebuild the pipeline. Media reports have previously indicated that a German associate of Putin from his time in the Stasi secret police has been lobbying in the U.S. for the relaunch of Nord Stream 2. Commenting on these reports, the European Commission stated that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project is not in the collective interest of European Union member states.
