Syria Bans Imports from Russia, Iran, and Israel

The new Syrian government has imposed a ban on importing goods from Russia, Iran, and Israel. This was reported by the Turkish portal Türkiye Today, as relayed by Ukrinform. On Friday, January 17, Syria's Ministry of Finance issued a circular prohibiting the import of Russian, Iranian, and Israeli products through all sea and land border crossings. The move is expected to escalate tensions between Syria and the mentioned countries and impact international trade in the region, including neighboring Turkey, which maintains strong trade ties with Syria. Earlier, Damascus had also banned the entry of Iranian and Israeli citizens. In response, Turkish Airlines, one of the largest carriers planning to resume flights to Damascus on January 23, announced it would not allow Iranian or Israeli nationals on flights to Syria. As reported earlier, the new Syrian government is also open to considering the deployment of UN peacekeepers along its border with Israel.
