Ukraine’s incursion is “obvious humiliation” for Putin, Lithuania’s National Defence Minister says

Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Laurynas Kasčiūnas, who just visited Ukrainу, has said that the situation in Russia's Kursk Oblast is an 'obvious humiliation' for Vladimir Putin though he tries to diminish the problem Russia is facing now. That's according to Lithuania's LRT. "If we look at it realistically, this is an obvious humiliation of Vladimir Putin. The [Russian] so-called defensive lines, apparently, were not even the way they were supposed to be designed. They [Ukrainians] have now taken as much territory as they managed to take in last year's counterattack, in other words, those numbers are pretty impressive," Kasčiūnas said. At the same time, the Lithuanian official sees a "boost in the morale" of the Ukrainian soldiers which was long-needed. In addition, he mentioned that Ukraine's achievements in the Kursk region has made its position stronger if it comes to any negotiations. "Ukraine must come to the negotiations from the strongest possible position and Ukraine itself must decide when those negotiations must begin. I think that by gaining at least temporary control over that territory, that negotiating power of Ukraine would be much greater," the Minister noted. On August 13, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Laurynas Kasčiūnas and thanked him for consistent support his state has been providing to Ukrainians.
