On the night of 2 September, before the first day of school, Russian troops again attacked the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, with cruise and ballistic missiles. According to the Kyiv military administration, the city's air defences successfully intercepted and destroyed more than a dozen cruise missiles, about a dozen ballistic missiles and one attack drone. The debris of the Russian missiles shot down on the morning of 2 September fell in all districts of Kyiv, injuring three people. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked everyone who made this school year possible. ‘Today is one of the most important days of the year for millions of Ukrainian children, families and teachers. Today, Ukraine starts a new school year despite the war and all the challenges. I am grateful to everyone who made this school year possible for Ukraine - all the teachers who work in our country and all those who defend our cities and villages,’ Zelenskyy said. He added that Ukraine is doing everything possible to provide children with maximum opportunities. All the schools and higher education institutions in the country that are working today are a testament to the resilience of the people and the strength of Ukraine.
