The Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is either leading or closely tied with Republican Donald Trump in each of the seven key states believed to be decisive in the election. According to a Bloomberg survey, Harris has either reduced or nullified Trump’s advantage on key economic issues and has positioned herself as the more trustworthy candidate. Specifically, the Vice President is leading by 2 percentage points among registered voters in the seven states. Journalists also noted that Harris has reintroduced key "Sun Belt" states, such as Georgia and Nevada, into play. This is particularly noticeable in North Carolina, where Harris currently holds a 2-point lead. It was noted that no Democratic presidential candidate has won there since Barack Obama in 2008, and Trump led by 10 percentage points as recently as April. Harris’s rising poll numbers in North Carolina have prompted Republicans to spend over $16 million on television ads supporting Trump over the past five weeks. The survey included 4,962 registered voters in the seven key states: 805 in Arizona, 801 in Georgia, 702 in Michigan, 450 in Nevada, 700 in North Carolina, and 803 in Pennsylvania. The poll was conducted online from August 23 to 27. The "Sun Belt" states include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, California, Nevada, and Virginia. Kamala Harris symbolically accepted the Democratic Party nomination for U.S. President at the Democratic National Convention from August 19-22. She effectively began her campaign at the end of July, following President Joe Biden's announcement that he would not seek a second term, and since then, her poll numbers have steadily increased.
