The European Union will provide €160 million to help Ukraine prepare for another winter amid ongoing Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this during a briefing. The support will include €60 million in humanitarian aid for heating points and heaters, and approximately €100 million for repair work and renewable energy generation. This €100 million is sourced from revenues from frozen Russian assets in Europe. Von der Leyen stated, "It is only fair that Russia pays for the destruction." Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the EU has provided about €2 billion in energy support to Ukraine, not including the physical equipment delivered. Ukraine has received over 10,000 generators and transformers through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katerina Mathernova also mentioned that the EU plans to increase electricity exports to Ukraine and prepare energy equipment supplies to support the country's damaged energy system this winter. She noted that while Ukraine will face a challenging winter, the situation will not be catastrophic.
