On Monday, December 16, the Council of the European Union approved the 15th package of economic and individual restrictive measures. These include North Korean officials and Chinese suppliers of drone components, according to a document. Key Measures: Sanction Scope: The package targets 54 individuals and 30 organizations, including Russian military units, senior energy executives, and propagandists. It also sanctions entities involved in child deportations, shadow fleets, and sanctions circumvention. Chinese Suppliers: For the first time, full EU sanctions were imposed on Chinese entities providing components for drones and microelectronics used in Russian aggression. Shadow Fleet: Measures are directed at tankers from non-EU countries that evade oil price caps or transport stolen Ukrainian grain. A total of 52 additional ships were sanctioned, bringing the total to 79 vessels. Defense Industry: 32 new entities supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex, including organizations in China, India, Iran, Serbia, and the UAE, were added for aiding sanctions evasion or procuring drones and missiles for Russia. Additional Details: The sanctions list includes a Russian chemical plant, defense, and shipping companies responsible for transporting crude oil and military equipment, as well as a civilian airline supplying logistics to Russia’s military. New restrictions extend to Russian LNG, advocated by Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, emphasizing further pressure on Russia's energy exports. This sanctions package aims to weaken Russia’s war efforts, address sanctions evasion, and deter foreign entities aiding Moscow’s aggression.
