The world can deliver a strong ultimatum to the Russian Federation to force it to end the war on Ukraine’s terms, – opinion

The refusal of the Russian Federation to take part in the second Peace Summit organized by Ukraine is quite expected: Russia can be forced to peace only with a strong ultimatum. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by Aleksey Buryachenko, candidate of political sciences, executive director of the International Association of Small Cities. He noted that after the first Peace Summit, no element of pressure on the Russian Federation was developed. “The first Peace Summit did not provide for any kind of power component, but rather was a platform for indicating a position, so that the huge number of countries in the world that took part in this summit could hear each other. In fact, the global significance of this Summit cannot be underestimated, because against the backdrop of a dysfunctional collective security system, against the backdrop of a stalling Security Council and the United Nations as a whole, when the same Guterres flies, for example, to the SCO in Kazakhstan, but did not fly to Switzerland at the Peace Summit, it really, really opened the eyes of many countries to what is happening in the world, who the main destabilizing element in the world is the Russian Federation, and how it conducts both direct escalatory wars and aggression, and, strictly speaking, hybrid wars . This is a very complex tangle, and there are no linear solutions,” said the political scientist. Buryachenko believes that there is logic in holding the second Peace Summit before the US presidential elections. “Of course, the logic before the elections is still work that is going on quite effectively with the White House, with the current president, in order, let’s say, to get away from possible turbulence associated with the arrival of Trump. There was a lot of talk about this in Washington these days on the sidelines of the anniversary NATO summit. And even the decisions on Ukraine, on the creation of a coordination center, for example, in Germany, indicate that Trump’s arrival is indeed being taken as seriously as possible in NATO and the United States. But here, in essence, the key question is whether the next Peace Summit, for example, before the elections in the United States, will be able to force the Russian Federation with its ultimatum, firstly, to sit down at the negotiating table - this time. And secondly, can the Peace Summit be such a platform where, say, the Russian Federation will sign its terms of surrender, and Ukraine will achieve the desired just peace based on the peace formula,” he said. The political scientist recalled that, according to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the format of negotiations with the participation of the Russian Federation is possible after developing a position and with the participation of guarantor states. “Anyway, the second Peace Summit, it seems to me, should take place as the drawing of a certain line - when the countries have worked out a final proposal, when an ultimatum was put forward to the Russian Federation. And I don’t think that in the second Summit, I’m actually a realist, that the Russian Federation will be forced to take part,” Buryachenko said. He believes that if the Russian Federation refuses to participate in the second Peace Summit and does not agree to any constructive conversation, then the world can put forward ultimatum conditions that Ukraine “cannot afford, because it simply does not have such geopolitical significance and such a resource " “For example, announcing a complete embargo on the Russian Federation can only be done by the broadest possible coalition of countries. There are a number of additional possible ultimatum solutions. Therefore, let’s say, on the one hand, it’s definitely not worth throwing it away and saying that the second Peace Summit will be inconclusive, because Russia has already refused to take part in it. Because this summit really should be the foundation of the future world on our terms, which we will now form with our own hands. And how to bring decisions to execution after the development of ultimatums for the Russian Federation is a little bit the next stage with the participation of guarantor countries, with the participation of countries that offer their platform. But at the same time, you need to have the most important thing, you need to have a strong negotiating position both for Ukraine and for the entire civilized world,” Buryachenko said.
