Poland may participate in the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council in Washington only as an observer and does not intend to formally join the initiative at this stage, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday ahead of a government meeting, UATV English reports. “Under the current circumstances and conditions, the government does not foresee Poland’s participation in the Peace Council. A possible visit to Washington by a representative of the president would be observational in nature — meaning Poland’s representative may of course attend the meetings as an observer,” Tusk stated. He also emphasized that Poland has no plans to send troops to the Gaza Strip or participate in business projects there. “Poland certainly does not intend to send Polish soldiers to the Gaza Strip. We have our own security issues, and I do not need to explain what the Polish army is focused on. Poland is also not interested in co-financing development projects in Gaza,” Tusk stressed. It was later announced that Polish President Karol Nawrocki will not attend the inaugural Peace Council meeting in the United States. Warsaw will instead be represented by Marcin Przydacz, head of the President’s Bureau of International Policy, according to presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz. Previously, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that if President Nawrocki were to attend the meeting initiated by Donald Trump, he should persuade the White House that pressure in the Russia-Ukraine war must be applied to the aggressor, not the victim. Ahead of a new round of trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in Geneva, Trump said Ukraine should “move faster” to come to the negotiating table.
