Swedish government announced a 1 billion Swedish kronor ($111.1 million) energy assistance package for Ukraine, aimed at stabilizing the country’s power system amid ongoing Russian attacks. The announcement was reported by Sweden Herald, citing an official government statement, UATV English reports. According to Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, Russia has disabled around 20% of Ukraine’s energy production in just one month, leaving the energy sector under extreme strain. He stressed that the situation remains critical as Ukraine continues to face systematic strikes on power generation and distribution infrastructure. The allocated 1 billion kronor is the first installment of a broader 10 billion kronor support package that Sweden has earmarked for Ukraine in 2026. Part of the funds will be directed to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, while another portion will be channeled through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to ensure rapid and transparent delivery of assistance. The support will be used to supply Ukraine with energy equipment essential for emergency recovery and resilience, including mobile power stations, heating units, spare parts, and other components needed to repair damaged facilities. The Swedish government emphasized that the aid is designed to help Ukraine maintain electricity and heating supply for civilians, especially during periods of intensified attacks and harsh weather conditions. Sweden’s contribution is part of a wider international effort to reinforce Ukraine’s energy security. As previously reported, international partners have already provided more than 145 MW of backup power equipment to help mitigate the impact of continued strikes on critical infrastructure.
