U.S. President warned Britain against cooperation with China

U.S. President Donald Trump warned the United Kingdom against deepening cooperation with China, saying it is “dangerous.” According to UATV English, he said this at the premiere of a documentary film by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. Trump was asked what he thinks about the deepening of relations between Beijing and London amid the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to China. The British head of government arrived in Beijing for a four-day visit — the first in the past eight years. During a meeting with China’s leader Xi Jinping, Keir Starmer said he seeks to build “more nuanced” relations with the PRC. The sides reached agreements on trade and investment. China also introduced a 30-day visa-free regime for British citizens. The U.S. president called these steps “dangerous” and mentioned Canada, which has also recently concluded a number of agreements with China. “For them this is very dangerous, and for Canada it is even more dangerous to enter into business relations with China. Canada is going through hard times. They are in very bad shape. And China cannot be a way out of the situation. The first thing they will do is ban playing hockey. Canada will not like that,” the U.S. president said. Relations between the countries have appeared tense in recent weeks after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Beijing and signed a trade agreement with China. Because of this, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened 100 percent tariffs on Canadian imported goods. As previously reported, Trump also announced 50 percent tariffs on Canadian aircraft if Canada does not open its market to American Gulfstream Aerospace jets.
