EU and Canada agree to continue supporting Ukraine

At the fourth joint ministerial meeting in Niagara, Canada and the European Union reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, the EU Council press service reported, according UATV English. “Canada and the EU reaffirm their steadfast and unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” the sides said in a joint statement. They urged Russia to end its aggression, respect international humanitarian law, and pursue diplomacy and dialogue. Both parties emphasized that any lasting peace must include Ukraine and be based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law. The EU and Canada also pledged to maintain tough sanctions on Russia and those aiding its war, noting that these measures will be strengthened. “Russia must compensate for the damage caused by its illegal actions against Ukraine and its people,” the statement reads. Both sides co-chair the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and reiterated their urgent call on Russia and Belarus to ensure the safe return of all illegally deported Ukrainian children. Canada and the EU further agreed to keep working on financing Ukraine’s recovery, enhancing cooperation in cybersecurity and hybrid threats, and contributing to Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction through the Ukraine Donor Platform.
