Finland Deploys Drone Defense Unit to Denmark

Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced that Finland is deploying a counter-drone contingent to Denmark to help secure its airspace amid recent hybrid threats. “Finland fully supports Denmark in its efforts to ensure the security of its airspace and to counter hybrid activities like those we have seen in recent days and weeks,” Stubb wrote on X. According to the president, Finland decided to provide direct assistance by sending a counter-drone unit, while the Finnish Border Guard will also contribute with its own capabilities. Stubb emphasized the importance of Nordic cooperation: “This is an excellent example of concrete cooperation between the Nordic countries, which we need today.” He added that Finland and its partners will continue to coordinate approaches to hybrid threats and advance capability development across Europe. The move comes as France, Germany, and Sweden have also sent resources to Denmark to bolster drone defense ahead of the informal EU leaders’ summit in Copenhagen on October 1. Meanwhile, the UK will provide technological support, after several Danish airports were forced to suspend operations due to drone activity in recent days.
