Flying Fish swimmers rule the pool at Bluefins meet

FLYING Fish swimmers starred at the Bluefins Aquatics Fourth Annual Short Course Swim Meet, which was held at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on March 23. Flying Fish ended the meet with 865 points, way ahead of the other clubs. Host team Bluefins were second with 478.50 points and Tidal Wave Aquatics of TT finished third with 433 points. In fourth position was RWB Aquatic Academy (306.50) and Blue Dolphin Swim Club (271) rounded off the top five. The meet was supported by local clubs as 17 teams participated. The leading swimmers for Flying Fish were Dylan Quesnel, Nathaniel St Louis, Caylee Sylvester, Brandon Balfour and Richard Staglon as they all won their categories. Quesnel was the champion swimmer in the boys 11-12 age group as he finished with 38 points. One of his outstanding performances came in the 100-metre freestyle event as he won in one minute, 08.60 seconds (1:08.60). St Louis showed his quality in the boys 13-14 category with a total of 40 points. In the 50m butterfly, St Louis was first in 29.37 seconds. Sylvester was unstoppable in the 15 and over women’s age group, earning points in five events to end with 41 points. One of the events she won was the 100m freestyle in 1:03.48, just ahead of her teammate Kaylee France who finished in 1:05.10. Balfour delivered in the 15 and over men’s division with 39 points. In the 50m butterfly, Balfour led a dominant performance by Flying Fish. Balfour won in 26.42 and was followed by his three Flying Fish teammates as Nicholas Keith, Aidan Simon and Tristin Roberts demonstrated their speed also. In the boys 13-14 category, Staglon showed class as he grabbed 30 points, finishing ahead of fellow Flying Fish swimmer Neval Garcia who earned 23 points. One of the memorable moments for Staglon was in the 13-14 25m butterfly, which he won in 14.89.
