Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Daniel Phillips has agreed a two-year deal with English League One club Stevenage FC. Phillips, 23, joined from Scottish Premier League team St Johnstone, where he played over 50 matches across the last two seasons in the Scottish top flight. Since making his debut for the national team in 2021, he’s achieved 12 country appearances, featuring in the Concacaf and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He’s also a product of English top-flight club Chelsea and Watford’s academies. In his first interview as a Stevenage player, Phillip expressed joy to join the second-tier English club. “(I’m) Delighted to be here. Really happy to get it done (transfer), it’s been a long time coming. The manager and the staff showed how much they really wanted to get me in (signed) and I’m really happy to be here.” On what he brings to the squad, Phillips added, “I’m quite aggressive, I like to tackle and run. I work really hard for the team and hopefully, I can help the team in that aspect.” Stevenage FC manager Alex Revell was pleased to have Phillips join the English setup. “Dan brings new qualities to central midfield. We have tracked him ever since he left Watford two years ago. It’s taken a while but we’re delighted to get him over the line,” Revell said on the club’s Instagram page on July 4.
