Rio Claro bar owner shot dead

A BAR OWNER has been shot dead at the front of the family’s bar in Rio Claro on August 6, a month after gunmen shot at the car he was in. Garnet Sydney, 29, died in front of Tri-Star Bar at Dades Trace junction, near Tabaquite Road. The police said around 10 pm, he was playing all-fours with other people when a Nissan B13 car stopped on the road nearby and a man got out. He walked up to the group and shot Sydney before returning to the car, which drove off. Sydney died on the spot. No one else was injured. Insp Ragbir, Cpl Burgess and other officers from the Rio Claro police station were alerted. Officers on patrol were among the first responders, and within minutes, found the getaway car abandoned at the roadside near Dades Killdeer public cemetery. They searched for the killer without luck. The police do not have a motive. Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Two, were also alerted. Sgt Ramsahai of the Homicide Bureau is leading the investigations. Eastern Division police said Sydney was in a car last month in a forested area between Rio Claro and Tabaquite, where gunmen started shooting at it. The driver was injured but Sydney escaped unhurt. The motive for that shooting was considered to be robbery. Investigators were unable to say whether the shootings were linked.
