Send in army to restore order in Tobago

THE EDITOR: The only solution for Tobago's record murder rate is to let the army intervene, in conjunction with the police. Unfortunately, the police leadership is very weak and not at all strategic in their thinking. Does anyone remember the current ACP in charge of Tobago telling a murderer to surrender within 48 hours? On April 27, 2023, Donneil Thomas was murdered at his home. His was the fourth murder for the year in Tobago. On the same day, the brand new assistant commissioner of police (ACP) for Tobago told the media: "I want to say to the person or persons responsible for this tragedy of a life to surrender your good self within 48 hours because paradise island will not be paradise for you, as we hunt you down and make life very miserable on this island." One could have heard the cackling of laughter all the way in Trinidad. It is now August 2024, one year and four months later. Was anyone arrested and charged? A search of the internet and newspapers revealed no arrest. One could imagine that the murderer is still laughing at the ACP in Tobago. Under the ACP's watch, Tobago has seen a record number of murders in 2023 and 2024. We must be prepared for the "dey too wicked" crew and their money-hungry lawyers to petition the judiciary to give them plenty money if the army intervenes.
