Malabar Semi Pro go for 3rd straight West Penn crown on August 17

Malabar Semi Pro Blasters will go after their third straight RBC West Penn Nationwide Youth Football League Under-20 title and the $15,000 top prize when they tackle Guapo Uprising Youths in the 2024 final from 7 pm at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex on August 17. Malabar have been in fine form for the 2024 season, and they stormed to the final after getting a thumping 5-1 win over San Juan Jabloteh at the Eddie Hart recreation ground in Tacarigua in the second game of a semifinal double-header on August 3. The Jabloteh team includes the attacking midfield pair of Andell Fraser and San Juan North Secondary standout Lindell Sween, who debuted for the Soca Warriors against Guyana in friendly action back in May. Fraser started the game in style for Jabloteh as they scored in the first 60 seconds. However, Malabar roared back and they went into the half with a 2-1 advantage, with Israel Joseph and Marcel Valentine giving the two-time defending champions the upper hand. Valentine added another goal in the 58th minute, with Malabar also getting two more second-half items from midfielder Phillip Tinto and lanky attacker Dwight Jordan, both of whom have featured in the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League (TTPFL). Mordecai Brown opened the scoring for Uprising Youths in the 34th minute, with striker Daniel Jones sealing the deal with his effort in the 54th minute. On August 17, the youngsters from Guapo will hope to rise to the occasion and knock Malabar off their perch. From 5 pm on August 17, Jabloteh and Prisons will aim to end the West Penn tourney on a high when they clash in the third-place playoff. The second-place team in the tourney will receive a $10,000 prize, with the third and fourth-place teams receiving $5,000 and $3,000 respectively.   The post Malabar Semi Pro go for 3rd straight West Penn crown on August 17 appeared first on Trinidad and Tobago Newsday.
