Queen Omega, Kabaka Pyramid for Queen’s Awakening II

Jamaican Grammy award-winning artist Kabaka Pyramid (Keron Salmon) and roots reggae sensation Samory I (Samory-Tour Frazer) are the main guest artists joining Trinidad and Tobago’s global reggae ambassador Queen Omega (Jeneile Osborne) at the second edition of her Queen’s Awakening Culture Festival. The concert sings off on August 31 at Skinner Park, San Fernando, and will also feature calypso/soca icon Terri Lyons and the 2008 Hummingbird Medal (Gold) award recipient North West Laventille Cultural Movement. Additionally, UK-based TT dancehall artist Zerimar will also perform some of his positive musical productions alongside pannist Derron Ellies. Since then, she’s been travelling the globe performing at major reggae festivals in Europe, UK and the US. Queen Omega also performed in Canada for the first time this year, and is still in Europe for a slew of shows in August. She concludes another hectic year of touring with her first appearance on the famed Jamrock Reggae Cruise on December 9. For Queen’s Awakening, which held its first edition at the same venue last year, and also featured two popular Jamaican artists, Lutan Fyah and Iba Mahr, Omega anticipates another unforgettable performance. “The whole concept of the show is to ensure we promote unification of different genres. Showcasing our culture and bringing positive messages of more love, which is needed amongst us all,” said event manager and Omega’s personal assistant Dalana St Rose. She anticipates another night of musical consciousness. “Patrons can expect a beautiful night of lovely music, dancing and ‘vibes-ing’ the night away promoting love and unity under one universal order with peace and humility,” St Rose said. Guest artist Kabaka Pyramid won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2022 for his release The Kalling. His online biography states, Kabaka is a “conscious revolutionary lyricist with a signature musical style; blending the power, energy and melody of reggae with the lyricism of hip hop.” He’s collaborated with multiple artists across six albums, including Buju Banton, Damian Jr Gong Marley, Protoje and Jesse Royal, among others. Kabaka also won the 2023 Caribbean Music Awards’ Best Reggae Album and Jamaica Reggae Industry Association’s Breakthrough of the year in 2013. He collaborated with Kabaka and reggae legend Capleton to produce the track Wrath, one of its many hits, including Blood in the Streets and Crown. Samory I is famed for his ethereal voice and has been one of reggae’s continuously rising singers. Part proceeds of Queen’s Awakening goes to maintenance and repairs of a children’s home in Arima.
