Olympic sprinter Jereem Richards clocked a season's best time of 20.10 seconds, but it was only good for a fifth-place finish in a packed 200-metre field at the Lausanne Diamond League at the Stade Olympique de La Pontaise, Switzerland on August 22. Running out of lane three, the 30-year-old Richards just missed out on dipping below the 20-second mark, and he eventually finished well behind newly minted 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo who sprinted to Diamond League gold. Tebogo, who claimed Botswana's first-ever Olympic gold medal when he clocked a blistering 19.46 to take the men's 200m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on August 8, grabbed the Diamond League top honours in 19.64. Tebogo beat the US pair of Erriyon Knighton and Fred Kerley, who finished second and third in 19.78 and 19.86 respectively. Knighton placed fourth in the 200m final at the Olympics, with Kerley grabbing a bronze medal in the men's 100m final behind his countryman Noah Lyles and Jamaican Kishane Thompson. Dominican Republic's Alexander Ogando, another 200m finalist from Paris, also dipped below the 20-second barrier in Lausanne and finished fourth in a season's best of 19.94. Liberia's Joseph Fahnbulleh (20.18) placed sixth, with Swiss athletes Timothe Mumenthaler (20.54) and William Reais (20.75) bringing up the rear of the eight-man field. Richards met the Olympic standard for both the 200m and 400m events, but he opted to compete in the latter event in Paris. Richards progressed to the 400m final in Paris – just missing out on a medal as he clocked a national record of 43.78 to place fourth.
