Best Village workers to receive payment

BEST Village groups and tutors can look forward to receiving stipends and grants from July 31. In a statement on July 29, the Ministry of Sport and Community Development said the ministry’s Best Village accounts team would contact the groups and tutors with updates on the payment process. The Sport and Community Development website says the Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition highlights TT’s rich multicultural diversity by showcasing villages and communities across TT. Best Village promotes talent, indigenous cuisine and cultural folk tradition with drama, music, dance, story-writing, poetry and spoken word. This year marks the 61st anniversary of the competition and it is celebrated with the theme “The Future is Folk.” The statement said the Sport Ministry had seen an overall increase in participating groups and individuals for this year. “The Best Village Camps saw over 1,000 children across ten regional camps exposed to various aspects of our country’s history and culture, thus laying a solid foundation for Best Village 2025. This is a testament to the reach and impact of Best Village.” Last year, during the celebration of Best Village 60th anniversary Sport and Community Development Minister Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s Best Village growth and impact. The Best Village 2024 competition will continue with the folk presentations, folk theatre finals and the Le Gran Z’Affaire events.
