A solo exhibition of Taiwan print artist Chang Hsin-chen is underway in central county, Changhua’s, National Living Art Center, the Ministry of Culture said. According to the MOC, 62 prints, including New Year prints, are on display. New Year prints are traditionally used at the Lunar New Year to deter evil spirits and bring blessings and peace, the ministry explained. Chang grew up in central Taiwan’s Nantou County, Shuili Township and graduated from what is now National Taichung University of Education Fine Arts Department and from New Taipei City-based Fu Jen Catholic University Department of Chinese Literature. She won top prize five times in the MOC-supported ROC (Taiwan) annual competition for New Year prints, and her work has also been selected for the Taiwan International Print Biennial held by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung and for other national exhibitions. Chang’s New Year prints focus on the 12 Chinese zodiac signs depicted with saturated bright colors, the MOC said, adding that many of her pieces break the compositional limitations and have a distinct sense of modernity and personality. Her prints are mainly inspired by daily life and personal incidents, the ministry noted. It added that Chang creates rich visual effects through both line and texture; and some of her work is inspired by literature. The exhibition is on through Jan. 26, the MOC said, adding that Chang’s work is currently collected by the NTMFA. (YCH-E) Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
