International climate change workshop held in Taipei

New Taipei City-based National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) organized a 2026 Taiwan Climate Change Projection and Information Platform International Workshop on Climate Change May 11-13, showcasing research in climate change adaption, according to the National Science Technology Council.   Experts from Japan’s Center for Climate Change Adaptation and the Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change together with local experts joined discussions on three topics: impact drivers and analysis, adaptation and support systems, and adaptation framework and policies, the NSTC said.   NSTC Deputy Minister Lin Faa-jeng noted that faced with escalating climate risks, scientific research on climate data is the basis for governmental adaptation policies. He added that the council’s TCCIP project integrated climate change simulation, data analysis and impact analysis in a systematic information platform to facilitate academic, government and industry understanding of climate impacts.   Lin emphasized that climate adaptation requires interdepartmental as well as international collaboration. On the latter point, he looked forward to establishing a transnational platform with Japan and Korea.   NCDR Director Chen Hung-yu said that with the council’s long-term support, the center oversaw TCCIP operation. He hoped that Taiwan, Japan and Korea would deepen partnership in risk evaluation and disaster prevention technology.   The first two days of the workshop focused on applications of climate data in fields including potential disaster assessment, health, agriculture, fishing, forestry and urban heat islands. On the third day participants made onsite visits to see how Taiwan turns research conclusions into policy, the council added. (POC-E)   Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
