Following attacks against Iran by the United States and Israel, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transportation and Communications is monitoring the situation of Taiwanese nationals in the Middle East. The MOFA raised the travel alert for Iran and Israel to red on Feb. 28, indicating advice to leave as soon as possible. On Mar. 1 it adjusted the alert for Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to orange indicating advice to avoid unnecessary travel, and on Mar. 3 also placed an orange alert for Egypt and Jordon. Due to the fluctuating conditions in the Middle East region, multiple countries have closed their airspace and the MOFA has requested embassies and representative offices in the area to monitor Taiwanese nationals whereabouts and provide appropriate assistance. Based on a Mar. 3 analysis by the MOTC Tourism Administration, a total of 1,240 Taiwanese passengers who travelled to Europe and Gulf nations have not yet returned to Taiwan. Travel agencies have arranged for 947 still in the region to take other flights or trains to locations where there are direct flights back home. Due to the closure of Dubai International Airport, 96 passengers are still present in Dubai. Once the airport resumes operations, arrangements will be made for them to return home, the MOTC stated.
