Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim received a delegation from the Atlantic Council at the Presidential Office Oct. 31 in Taipei City and said Taiwan remains committed to contributing to global supply chain development and regional prosperity. According to the PO, the group was led by Gabrielius Landsbergis, former foreign minister of Lithuania, and comprised senior members of the Washington D.C.-based think tank. The VP said in the face of complex geopolitics and a changing global trade order, Taiwan is adjusting strategies and enhancing its role in the global economic and technological landscape. She thanked the delegates for their long-term concerns for peace, prosperity, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific, and expressed hope of enhanced exchanges on related issues. During his meeting with the group, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung said amid global challenges, particularly the growing expansionist tendencies of authoritarian regimes, democratic countries need to work in unity to uphold the values of freedom and democracy. Lin said the government is continuing to work with the U.S., Europe and Indo-Pacific partners to establish a global democratic value chain, boost the security of the first island chain and forge resilient non-red supply chains to safeguard peace, stability and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and beyond. In response, Landsbergis said Taiwan and Europe face similar challenges and can learn from each other. He commended the government’s moves to strengthen national defense and bolster social resilience, and suggested that Taiwan learn from Ukraine’s experience in terms of technology, tactics and strategic communication.
