Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun pledged to continue strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure while forging a regional joint defense mechanism to counter drone threats. According to the Executive Yuan, Cheng made the remarks while hosting the Homeland Security Policy Committee’s 16th meeting Jan. 8 in Taipei City. Prior to the meeting, Cheng presented awards to agencies and individuals who participated in the 2025 urban resilience exercises organized by the Ministry of National Defense’s All-out Defense Mobilization Agency, in which 35 critical infrastructure facilities and 11 cities and counties took part. The vice premier said the drills tested infrastructure continuity under threat, demonstrated coordination between the central and local governments, and strengthened cooperation among infrastructure operators, the armed forces and the public. Following a briefing on the establishment of a collaborative defense system against unmanned aerial vehicle threats, Cheng stressed that Taiwan must bolster preparedness amid China’s military exercises and broader geopolitical uncertainty. Cheng also called on the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Financial Supervisory Commission and other agencies to develop guidelines to help private enterprises sustain operations during emergencies. She said detailed response measures should be integrated into daily operations to further improve national resilience in the coming year. (POC-E) Write to Taiwan Today at ttonline@mofa.gov.tw
