Wizkid and Davido shine at the 56th NAACP Image Awards

Musicians Wizkid and Davido have made the African continent proud.  The Nigerian superstars made a resounding impact at this year’s 56th NAACP Image Awards by securing wins across key categories.The 2025 ceremony was held on Saturday, February 22, at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.The awards, hosted by civil rights organisation the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), are held annually to celebrate African-Americans who have excelled in film, television, music and literature.Wizkid claimed the award for Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary) for "Piece of My Heart", his collaboration with Brent Faiyaz from his 6th and latest album, “Morayo”.Meanwhile, Davido also shined, winning Outstanding International Song for his feature on Chris Brown’s track, "Hmmm".Other winners included Queen Latifah, Ayo Edebiri, Damon Wayans, Kerry Washington and Keke Palmer. Former US Vice President Kamala Harris made a homecoming to the Awards for her first public live television appearance for the prestigious Chairman's Award. As a lifetime NAACP member, the award honoured Harris for her historic accomplishments and incredible service legacy to America and our community. Dave Chappelle received the President's Award for Outstanding Achievements and Distinguished Public Service and the Wayans Family was inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame, an honour bestowed upon trailblazers whose lasting influence continues to shape their industry for generations.During the ceremony, a special segment honoured the historically Black community of Altadena, which was impacted by the Eaton wildfires. Actor Morris Chestnut highlighted the community’s resilience and led a standing ovation for the 22 Altadena residents featured in the tribute.After honouring those who have passed away with an in memoriam tribute, American DJ and record producer, D-Nice led a special tribute to the late music icon Quincy Jones with a special medley to highlight his enduring legacy and timeless hits.Below is an abridged list of the winners:Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Contemporary)Wizkid feat.
