In a hard-hitting public lecture delivered on Tuesday night, retired Supreme Court judge Azhar Cachalia did not mince his words about Parliament appointing impeached judge John Hlophe to the Judicial Services Commission. He said it would undermine the public’s confidence in the judiciary, and added that the commission had “increasingly abused its power and became captured by political interests”.
