Jayda opens up about 'tsismis ng buhay ko' via new album 'Sad Girl Hours'

People have different ways of coping with relationship loss. For Jayda Avanzado, she finds comfort in writing songs. The daughter of music artists Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza admitted that the past year has been tough for her because she experienced a couple of relationship losses. “I realized what true loss was like in 2023. I considered that as motivation when I created this album.” she said after the viewing event for the short film that she created in connection to her new album titled Sad Girl Hours. The short film is a series of music videos that form a story about love, heartbreaks, and moving on. “It's all about my personal life in 2023. Lahat ng tsismis ng buhay ko ay maririnig n'yo at mapapanood n'yo rito sa short film na ito,” Jayda jokingly described her concept album. She added, “This is such a full circle moment. I'm having all sort of mixed emotions right now. This is actually a project that I've been working on for a really long time. I guess I would say about this project is really turning something painful for me, my experience, into something beautiful. That's really what I wanted to achieve in this album.” Without giving the exact details of what happened in 2023, Jayda further talked about her experience of relationship loss. The 21-year-old singer said, “I made the decision to make this a concept album because of everything that happened to me in 2023… Ayun nga, alam n'yo na ang mga tsismis sa buhay ko. I would say that it really shaped me as a person. It deeply affected me that it impacted me the way that I chose to create my art. “I thought of making it into an art film, in showcasing the narrative of it and how my story is as a human being. I wanted to achieve with this short story not only to get to know me as an artist but also to get to know me as a person.” Meanwhile, GMANetwork.com asked Jayda if she's ready to be asked about past issues after releasing this album. She answered, “I'm cognizant of, you know, itong industriyang pinasok ko. This is all about perception and I am aware that people will ask me questions. Siguro it's just standing firm about how much I'm willing to share and how much I'm and be in the mindset of let the art speak for itself. “So, pagdating sa mga ganyan, siguro I just know that the truth is on my side so I'm not afraid to answer questions and just set boundaries when needed. “Like I said, dahil nga nagsusulat ako, from the point of view of the truth, it's easy to be in that place, it's easy to take comfort in knowing that I'm just writing about my emotions and how I process that. It's really just about that more than anything. “I mean, it's easy to point and say, 'Oh, tungkol kay ganito 'yon. Pero sa akin kasi, when I am in the room, 'Oh, I really wanna write to that person. At first I ask myself, 'Ano ba ang gusto mong sabihin?' Yun talaga ang pinanggagalingan ko kapag nagsusulat ako.” Jayda is also aware that many tag her as a “sad girl” and she's accepted it. Jayda's Sad Girl Hours is composed of the following songs: “Love for Once,” “Slowburn,” “IDILY,” “A.M.,” “Right Love, Wrong Time,” “Rocket Science,” “Lumimot Sa 'Yo,” and “Sad Girl Anthem.” Here are some of the photos taken during the viewing event of Sad Girl Hours:
