Under-Construction Metro Pillar Collapses A 20-foot concrete structure from the Metro Line 4 construction toward Wadala near Chembur fell upon residential buildings at Suman Nagar Society in the evening. The incident started at 9:30 pm Thursday night and triggered fearful reactions from all the residents. The accident occurred at the Sion-Trombay Road main traffic route in Mumbai. A security guard's cabin at the society's premises experienced the impact from the reinforcement cage, which had fallen through the air. Official reports indicated that pillar 105C, experienced the mishap while workers were completing the first 4.5 meters and they attempted to install the subsequent 8-meter steel reinforcement system.  The high-volume traffic required that ropes anchored to a concrete block serve as a replacement for a crane lift during the installation operation. The pillar collapse took place when workers performed the shuttering removal operation. The turnbuckle fastener limited to the concrete block failed after unknown factor hit it. The reinforcement cage loosened from its bound ropes because of this incident thus causing the structure to crash down on the security cabin and damage its metal sheet. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) promised a comprehensive investigation of the incident. The inquiry results should become available in the upcoming two days.
