The Socratea exorrhiza, or "walking palm," found in South American rainforests, is renowned for its ability to "walk" across the forest floor. With stilt roots that grow in the direction of better sunlight and soil, the tree gradually moves over time. This unique adaptation helps the palm survive in the shifting rainforest environment. While the walking palm plays a crucial role in preventing erosion and supporting biodiversity, deforestation threatens its survival.
