Who is Heman Bekele, 'TIME's 2024 Kid of the Year' treating skin cancer?

Heman Bekele, a 15-year-old from Fairfax County, Virginia, was named TIME's Kid of the Year for 2024 for his innovative skin-cancer-fighting soap. Inspired by childhood memories in Ethiopia, Bekele utilized lipid-based nanoparticles to deliver imiquimod. His invention earned him recognition and a $25,000 prize from the 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
