KOLKATA RAPE MURDER CASE: Sanjoy Roy Taken into Custody by Police. Key Details Revealed

Sanjoy Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, became emotional in court on Friday as he claimed his innocence. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) brought Sanjoy Roy before the Kolkata court, requesting approval for a polygraph test for him and other suspects involved in the case. The lie detector test can only proceed with both the court's and the suspect's consent. According to The Times of India, Sanjoy Roy broke down when questioned by the judge about his willingness to undergo the polygraph test. He stated that his agreement to the test stemmed from his belief in his innocence. "I have not committed any crime. I am being framed. Perhaps this test will prove that," Roy reportedly said. The court approved the polygraph test for Sanjoy Roy and ordered him to be held in judicial custody for 14 days. Additionally, the court granted permission for polygraph tests to be conducted on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as well as five other individuals related to the case. This group includes four doctors who dined with the deceased doctor on the night of the incident, along with Roy. The trainee doctor was raped and murdered in a seminar hall at the medical college on August 9. The crime occurred late at night in the third-floor seminar hall of the chest department. The police later reported that the victim had multiple lacerations and wounds. Sanjoy Roy was arrested the day following the crime, having been seen entering the building around the estimated time of the incident. His Bluetooth headphones were found near the crime scene, and numerous pornographic videos were discovered on his mobile phone. The brutal nature of the crime incited significant outrage and protests within and outside the medical community. Resident doctor associations at government hospitals across India staged protests for 11 days in response to the assault and murder of the trainee doctor. This led to the suspension of all elective services, including outpatient departments, non-emergency surgeries, and diagnostic services. The strike was called off on Thursday after a request from the Supreme Court for doctors to resume their duties.  READ MORE -  End of an Era: Shikhar Dhawan Officially Announces Retirement from all Formats of Cricket.
