2-year-old Boy Kidnapping Case A 2-year-old boy, who had been abducted 14 months earlier, clung to his captor and cried uncontrollably when Jaipur Police rescued him from Uttar Pradesh. The heart-wrenching scene unfolded at a local police station, where the child, Prithvi, now called Kukku, was visibly distressed and refused to leave his kidnapper, Tanuj Chahar, despite the police’s attempts to separate them. A video from the station captured the intense moment: Prithvi tightly embraced Chahar, with tears streaming down both their faces, while his cries echoed through the station. Despite the officers’ efforts, the child was eventually pried away from Chahar and handed over to his mother, who was waiting outside with her family. On August 27, Jaipur police concluded this emotionally charged case by arresting Chahar in Aligarh, following a complex operation that spanned several cities. Tanuj Chahar, a 33-year-old former head constable from Agra who was stationed in the Reserve Police Lines in Aligarh, managed to evade authorities for over a year by frequently changing his appearance and location. @INCIndia @RahulGandhi #Toney #Root #voiceofpublic #Nokia #gomblegames pic.twitter.com/nL36giStjG — Rehan Khan (@iamrehanu) August 30, 2024 According to the Times of India, Chahar, a suspended officer with extensive knowledge of police procedures, used his expertise to stay undetected. He avoided using a phone, never met the same person twice, and even altered his appearance, growing a beard and disguising himself as a monk. He lived with the child in a self-built hut near the Yamuna River in Vrindavan. The kidnapping was triggered by Chahar’s demands on his reported relative, Poonam Chaudhary, Prithvi's mother. As Additional DCP (Sikau) Poonam Chand Vishnoi and Additional DCP (South) Paras Jain explained, Chahar had threatened Poonam, demanding that she leave her home and come with him. When she refused, he abducted her child to force her compliance. The police operation, led by a special team that covered Mathura, Agra, and Vrindavan, finally resulted in Chahar’s capture in Aligarh after an 8 km chase. Prithvi was returned to his mother, and Chahar has since been charged by the police.
