Mark Zuckerberg Admits Pressure from Joe Biden on Facebook Censorship Was a Mistake

Mark Zuckerberg claimed that Facebook faced pressure from the US government to censor COVID-19 content during the pandemic. He mentioned that in 2021, officials from the Biden Administration, including those from the White House, pushed Facebook for months to remove certain posts, even including jokes and satire. Zuckerberg said he now regrets making those changes. Mark Zuckerberg's comments come from a letter he wrote, which was shared on the House Judiciary Committee's Facebook page and confirmed by Meta. In the letter, Zuckerberg discussed contributions made during the last US presidential election to help support election infrastructure. Although Meta made the decision to remove the content, Mark Zuckerberg admitted that the pressure from the government was wrong and he regrets not speaking out more about it. During that time, Facebook faced criticism for removing posts from people who were against lockdowns, vaccines, and mask mandates. The platform said these posts contained misinformation about the pandemic or violated its rules. In just over a year, Facebook took down more than 20 million pieces of content. Mark Zuckerberg also discussed the upcoming US elections, stating,“My goal is to be neutral and not play a role one way or another — or to even appear to be playing a role."
