8 Cartoons We Wish Would Make a Comeback

The early 2000s were a golden era for cartoons, especially in India, where channels like Cartoon Network (CN) and POGO were household staples. These shows weren't just time-pass; they were integral parts of our childhoods, shaping our imagination and giving us heroes, villains, and life lessons that we still cherish today. Here’s a nostalgic look back at some of the iconic cartoons from the 2000s that we wish would make a comeback. 1. Dexter’s Laboratory Who could forget the boy genius Dexter, who had a secret laboratory hidden behind a bookshelf? Dexter’s battles with his annoying sister Dee Dee and the epic showdowns with his arch-nemesis Mandark were the highlights of after-school TV time. The show’s mix of science fiction, humor, and sibling rivalry made it a fan favorite. 2. The Powerpuff Girls  Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup—three little girls with superpowers, saving the world before bedtime. The Powerpuff Girls was more than just a show about superheroes; it was about girl power, teamwork, and standing up for what’s right. Each episode brought a new villain, from the creepy Mojo Jojo to the sinister Him, making it a show that we could never get enough of. 3. Johnny Bravo  Johnny Bravo was the ultimate cool guy, with his Elvis-like voice, slick hair, and muscular physique. His over-the-top confidence, combined with his complete cluelessness when it came to women, made for some of the funniest moments in cartoon history. Though often getting into trouble due to his narcissism, Johnny’s antics always had us in splits. 4. Tom & Jerry  Though Tom & Jerry originated long before the 2000s, their reruns on Cartoon Network kept us glued to the screen. The endless chase between Tom, the cat, and Jerry, the mouse, was a masterclass in slapstick comedy. With minimal dialogue, the show’s humor transcended language barriers, making it a universal favorite. 5. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!  Scooby-Doo and his gang of mystery-solvers—Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne—were the original ghostbusters. Each episode’s formula of unmasking the villain who would have gotten away with it “if it weren’t for those meddling kids” was timeless. The mix of humor, mystery, and the occasional scare made it a beloved series. 6. Courage the Cowardly Dog  This show was a perfect blend of horror and comedy. Courage, the pink, timid dog living with his elderly owners, constantly found himself facing creepy creatures and strange situations. Despite his fears, Courage always saved the day, teaching us that bravery isn’t the absence of fear but the triumph over it. 7. Oswald  Oswald the octopus and his quirky friends in Big City brought a sense of calm and serenity to our screens. The show was simple yet profound, with themes of friendship, kindness, and the joys of everyday life. Oswald’s gentle voice and slow-paced adventures were a soothing balm, making it a beloved show among younger kids. 8. Noddy  Based on the Enid Blyton books, Noddy was another gem on POGO. The little wooden boy with his red car and adventures in Toyland was a staple for younger audiences. The show’s themes of friendship, honesty, and problem-solving made it both entertaining and educational. Why We Miss These Shows The shows from the 2000s weren't just about entertainment; they were about creativity, imagination, and values. Each episode was a mini-lesson wrapped in humor, action, or mystery. In today’s fast-paced world, where kids’ content is often loud and flashy, these shows offered something different—stories that were simple yet engaging, characters that were relatable yet iconic, and humor that was innocent yet intelligent. As we reminisce about the good old days of CN and POGO, we can’t help but wish for these shows to make a comeback. Whether it’s the genius of Dexter, the heroics of the Powerpuff Girls, or the timeless antics of Tom & Jerry, these cartoons hold a special place in our hearts. And maybe, just maybe, one day we’ll see these classics return to our screens, bringing a whole new generation into their magical worlds.
