PM Modi Goes On A 2-Day Trip To Russia Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a two-day tour of Russia on Tuesday to attend a BRICS Summit in the city of Kazan. This is a new gathering of the group for the year, having been formed last year through an addition of new members. At the summit that is being held under the Russia’s chairmanship from October 22-24, PM Modi will have bilateral talks with Russian President, Vladimir Putin and other leaders of the other member countries of the grouping that now include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa apart from Iran, Egypt,Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates this year. The MEA said that, the Summit will provide an excellent chance to share reflections on the outcomes of the activities that have been started by BRICS and to define further development vector. ”PM Modi stressed on the bilateral relationship between India and Russia stating that the second coming to Russia in calendar year for the BRICS Summit will indeed strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between both the nations. Citing PM Modi’s statement in a release from its office, the Prime Minister said the trip to Kazan would help strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia after the Annual Summit held in Moscow in July this year. I hope to meet other leaders from BRICS too!” Further PM Modi said that India accord “immense importance” to the grouping. “India appreciates the fact that within BRICS there is strong interaction on various subject matter of mutual concern and importance to the international development partners, multilateralism, climate change, trade and investment, resilient and diversified supply chain, Cross-Cultural and People to People contacts etc”. He also welcome the increase of the BRICS membership with members last year stating that it leads to inclusiveness and the advancement of the group’s agenda in the global front. Ahead of the BRICS Summit, India and China agreed to recommence patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh “resulting to disengagement.” The deal which was the key diplomatic diplomacy achievement in the diplomatic relations between two nations was declared by the foreign secretary Vikram Misri on the Monday, October 21 during the MEA. During the announcement, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also spoke the possibility of a bilateral between PM Modi and President Xi at the margins of the BRICS. “We are still working around the time and engagements,” he said. It would be Prime Minister Narendra Modi second visit to Russia in the current calendar year as he had travelled to Moscow in July to attend the 22nd International India-Russia Summit. On one hand, PM Modi jointly talked to the Russian President Putin during his recent visit to Russia. Last month, Russian President invited PM Modi for a bilateral meeting on October 22, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. In the invitation, Putin said that Modi is his good friend. Russian President Putin made these comments when met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the occasion of BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting. He met with Doval at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersberg. Indian Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar said on Monday, before the BJP’s Prime Minister designate’s visit to Russi, that India is a founder member of BRICS and it accepts economic cooperation in BRICS as a ‘very foundational principle’. BRICS is an important grouping bringing together the major emerging economies from the world, comprising 41 per cent of the world population, 24 per cent of the world GDP and over 16 per cent share in the world trade.
