The Legend of Maula Jatt, featuring Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, which premiered in 2022, is now poised for a theatrical release in India. Director Bilal Lashari and Mahira Khan announced the news on their official Instagram accounts. "Releasing in India, Punjab on Wednesday, October 2nd! Two years later, and it's still full houses on weekends in Pakistan! I can't wait for our Punjabi audience in India to experience the magic of this labor of love," Bilal wrote. Mahira shared the film's poster on her Instagram Stories, expressing her excitement with a simple, “Let’s go.” Fawad chose to re-share a related post. This release marks the first time in over a decade that a Pakistani film will be shown in Indian cinemas. The film is a remake of the classic Pakistani movie Maula Jatt, focusing on the legendary feud between Noori Natt, played by Hamza Ali Abbasi, a ruthless gang leader, and local hero Maula Jatt, portrayed by Fawad Khan. The announcement has generated significant excitement among fans, as this presents a rare opportunity to see a Pakistani project on the big screen after such a long absence. A ban on Pakistani artists working in India was implemented following the Uri terror attack in 2016. However, in November 2023, the Supreme Court rejected a petition that sought a complete ban on Pakistani artists performing or working in India. Both Fawad and Mahira have previously appeared in Indian films. Fawad starred in movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Kapoor & Sons, and Khoobsurat, while Mahira made her Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.
