Man Dead, After Taking Wrong-Way A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 23-year-old man from Vikhroli on Wednesday morning at the Sion Circle Bridge. The victim, who was riding triple seat on an Activa in the wrong direction, fell from the bridge and died instantly after landing outside a housing society. Four others were critically injured in the incident. The deceased, identified as Animesh More, a resident of Tagore Nagar, was riding an Activa (MH 03 EK 6057) with his friends Amol Kunchikarve, 20, and the driver Vignesh Sarvade, all from the same locality. According to police reports, the trio was returning home after attending Ganpati Visarjan processions. At around 3:45 am, with the roads relatively empty, they decided to take a joyride on the wrong side of the Sion Circle Bridge, heading southbound in the northbound lane. At the same time, a Benelli TNT 300 (MH 04 JZ 4842) driven by Ashfaq Ansari, 28, with Mehendi Syed, 30, as the pillion rider, was traveling towards Mumbai. Both vehicles were speeding due to the empty roads and collided with each other. Traffic police officials on the scene reported that the collision was so violent that all occupants were thrown off the bridge, except for Animesh More. "The force of the impact caused More, who was seated on the third seat, to be flung over the edge of the bridge, landing outside Shivranjani Society beneath the Sion Circle Bridge," stated a police officer. Initially, officers believed the accident had left four people injured but later found More's body several feet away from the bridge. All the injured were taken to Sion Hospital, where More was declared dead on arrival due to severe injuries to his skull, back, legs, and chest. The others remain in critical condition in the ICU. Police noted that none of the victims were wearing helmets, which led to serious head injuries. By Wednesday night, the police were still registering an FIR. Although none of the injured were found to be under the influence, they were speeding, helmetless, and driving on the wrong side of the road. Authorities are expected to charge Vignesh Sarvade with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
