MS Dhoni Back from Vacation Amid IPL Future Uncertainty

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to announce player retention guidelines ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. Reports suggest that franchises may be permitted to retain up to five players for the IPL 2025 auction, providing significant relief to teams. As fans eagerly await these rules, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni returned to India on Wednesday. Earlier this month, he was seen enjoying a National Football League (NFL) game in Michigan, where he watched the match between the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with friends. Despite the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, Dhoni's future with CSK remains uncertain. Both the player and the franchise have been discreet about his plans following his resignation as captain earlier this year. Now back from his holiday, Dhoni arrived in Ranchi on Wednesday. Furthermore, there will be no Right To Match option available this time. If five-player retention is approved, it would greatly benefit the Mumbai Indians, allowing them to keep their star players—Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya. As reported by IANS, the mega auction for IPL 2025 is expected to take place in late November or early December, with the BCCI set to release the detailed rules soon. The Indian Premier League has conducted two major auctions in the last decade, spaced four years apart. The first significant auction occurred in 2014, followed by another in 2018, when the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings returned after a two-year suspension.
