The interim government of Bangladesh has sent a diplomatic note to India, which requests the return of deposed PM Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka. The 77-year-old Awami League leader, who fleed to India on August 5, has been staying there since escaping massive protests that resulted in the fall of her 16-year-old government. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka has issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina, her ministers, advisors, & several former military and civil officials by accusing them of "crimes against humanity and genocide." Touhid Hossain, a foreign affairs adviser to the interim government, informed the journalists, "We have sent a note verbale (diplomatic message) to the Indian government saying that Bangladesh wants her back here for the judicial process." Earlier, Home Advisor Jahangir Alam stated that his office had sent a letter to India's Ministry of External Affairs to help in Hasina's extradition. "We have sent a letter to the foreign ministry regarding her extradition. The process is currently underway," he stated to the media. Alam also made sure, that an extradition treaty already exists between Dhaka and New Delhi, which could facilitate her return to Bangladesh. This important request for Sheikh Hasina's return follows a visit by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Bangladesh. There he engaged in conversation with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate. Speaking to reporters in Dhaka, Mr. Misri noted that he had a frank, candid, and constructive exchange of views with his counterparts and that a wide range of problems related to the "extremely important bilateral relationship" was been discussed. He also included that India had raised concerns over attacks on the minorities, including Hindus, with Bangladeshi leaders. READ MORE - Dark side of Rice - Uncovering Hidden Health Risks
