In his first press conference since his election victory six weeks ago, President-elect Donald Trump mentioned topics including the Ukraine war, mysterious drones flying over New Jersey, the future of TikTok, and lawsuits which target the media he frequently criticizes. Trump displayed the same verbosity and confidence from his 2017-2021 White House years as he took questions in an ornate room at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Monday by making an economic announcement and speaking for over 1 hour. He engaged in conversations with reporters in a lighter, more informal tone, a departure from the fiery rhetoric often seen on the campaign trail. Trump responded to questions about Ukraine and Israel but didn't agree to reveal whether he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin or if he would endorse military action against Iran or not. Trump seemed more seasoned and slightly bemused by his newfound position in Washington, marveling at the steady flow of foreign leaders seeking to congratulate him and corporate CEOs who were eager to meet with him. “In the first term, everyone was fighting me,” he stated. “This time, everyone wants to be my friend. I don’t know—maybe my personality changed or something.” Advisers note that Trump has been currently focused on selecting members for his Cabinet and broader team, who will be essential in carrying out his plans for a sweeping overhaul of government and U.S. policies. Since his November 5 triumph, Donald Trump has not held even one of his signature rallies or engaged extensively with reporters, instead he is communicating through social media posts and occasional speeches.
