Osimhen: Nigeria desperate to avoid another World Cup heartbreak

Victor Osimhen has expressed Nigeria’s determination to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the team is fueled by desperation after missing out on the last edition.The Super Eagles have struggled in Group C, drawing three of their first four qualifiers. Osimhen, who missed those games through injury, is eager to help turn things around as Nigeria prepares to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month."It's a dream of every footballer to play at the World Cup, and with our situation in the group, I am desperate, like other players, to make it to the 2026 tournament," Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.The Napoli striker recalled Nigeria’s painful exit in 2022, when Ghana advanced to Qatar at their expense."We suffered a big disappointment in 2022, and we simply can't let it happen again to us, the country, and our generation," he added.Osimhen believes the team must correct past mistakes to secure qualification with new coach Eric Chelle taking charge.
