Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has praised the Black Queens for their outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the team’s bronze medal finish as a moment of national pride.Speaking at a brief ceremony held at Parliament House in Accra, Afenyo-Markin led the Minority Caucus in presenting a GHS100,000 cash donation to the Black Queens and their technical team. The gesture, he said, was to acknowledge the team’s determination, resilience, and the honour they brought to Ghana during the tournament in Morocco.“The Black Queens have not only represented Ghana with dignity but have reignited belief in women’s football,” Afenyo-Markin stated. “This donation is our way of saying thank you for lifting the flag of Ghana high.”The team was accompanied by officials and technical staff, while Hon. Patricia Appiagyei coordinated the presentation. The event also highlighted the importance of continued support for women’s football and broader advocacy for gender equity in sports.Afenyo-Markin used the occasion to urge increased investment in women’s football, stressing that the achievements of the Black Queens deserve national attention and sustained backing.
