Captaincy issues blamed for Black Stars decline

Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has sparked a heated debate, with former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, pointing to the mishandling of team captaincy as a major contributing factor.Asamoah criticised the constant changes to the captaincy, citing the example of Jordan Ayew, who was stripped of the captain's armband."If we don't try to remove that thing... Jordan was made a captain for a while, later he was no more—just a mess. That is why the African Cup of Nations we didn't go anywhere," he said in an interview with Happy FM.Asamoah emphasised that the ongoing captaincy saga overshadows coaching efforts, warning that without resolution, "we can go and bring Maresca, we can go and bring who and who... if we don't manage the captaincy well, the guys will continue to disappoint us."Fans are now calling for the Ghana Football Association to address the leadership issues within the team and find a solution to the captaincy conundrum.
